Miles to go before I sleep….

Miles to go before I sleep….

(From my diary)

A fine morning.  Before I get up, I  hearkened the laugh of Appoos - my grandson of ten months.  My great life partner was making him an ‘’alarm clock’’ for me to make noise!  I did enjoy his laugh, smile, talk with unclear accent which I don’t know and you don’t know but he and He only might be knowing! Time was running and I was still to get up!

I realized that I have to get up and finish a lot of work and at that time I recollected the popular lines of Robert Frost,

‘’The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep,

And miles to go before I sleep.

Similarly, my dear little boy, Appoose, I do enjoy your company, but I have, promises to keep, and miles to before I sleep…….

People and Places

People and Places

(Project work)

My granddaughter who is in First Standard was asked to prepare a project work on People and Places and also on a certain celebration (of course by guardian) and to talk about the same!  I was wondering about this task for such small children.  But, I realized, this should form part of their experience in gaining knowledge – whatever they can.  I prepared and the same was as under:-

India is our country and we are in the State of Maharashtra. India has twenty- eight states and seven union territories.  There are 22 official languages and 398 living languages.  India is a unique country in the world with people of many religions – Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs, Parsis etc. speaking different languages and having different culture.  Still, India has unity in diversity.  And, with this India has got independence in 1947 from British.

There are about 200 countries in the world.  The people speak different languages.  The currency varies from country to country.  Each and every country and their people are important for their own specialties.  According to the region, colour of their skin, habits, culture etc.  will be different.  However, our country is popular among the world countries for many languages, religions and different culture.  Still, we have unity in diversity and we should be proud of the same.

Festivals
           Different Religious symbols
Unity in Diversity

As mentioned, we are proud of ourselves and our places - the people and places in India – and following are just a very few examples of the same.  It requires more and more pages to mention and show in full !

            Ganeshothsav, Mumbai

Baisakhi, Punjab

                                                                          Kashmiri women

           At a paddy field, Kerala.

 As per Hindu Mythology, Saraswati Devi is the Goddess for education.  Vidya means knowledge and arambham means beginning.  Viyarambham is observed on Vijayadashami day for children of 3 – 4 years old to learn ‘’hari shree’’ (first lesson of education).  Ganpati is God for removing obstacles and Om, Hari Shree Ganapataye Nama: is written on sand or tray of rice. Then, on the child’s tongue with golden ring!

OM,
HARI
SHREE
GANPATAYE NAMA:
(Hari is the Lord and
Shree is prosperity.)

The child sits on the lap of Guru or an elder person to perform this beginning of education.  After writing on the tongue, the child writes (makes him/her write) on the rice kept on a plantain leaf by ring finger or index finger all the letters – alphabets and vowels.  This is considered as the best beginning of education of the child to become a master in reading and writing later.

The Kollur Mookambika Temple is famous and auspicious for this ceremony as Kullur is the abode of Goddess Saraswati.  Vidyarambham pooja is performed there from 6.45AM till 1.00PM.

Natural Beauty 'n' Human Nature!

Natural Beauty 'n' Human Nature!

(Poem)

[ The Beautiful Mother Nature ]

The fragrance of flowers is equivalent

to moral fiber  of the humans;

The natural beauty is equivalent

to good nature  of the persons.

The nature, always is true and divine,

nature of the man is not seen so!

Let’s try to be in line with the nature

to purify our nature in a natural way.

Let’s not forget ever that deviation

from nature will worsen  our nature!

So, let our nature go hand in hand

with the mother nature in order to

keep ourselves hale and hearty….

Too much of anything……

Too much of anything……

(Thoughts)

Oversmartness,

Overaction,

Overconfidence,

Overenthusiasm,

Overobedience,

Oversisitivity,
Oversincerity,
Overpoliteness….

Why more; too much of such qualities are bad and could be dangerous – if not
immediately, of course, in due course.

We are Indians

We are Indians

(A skit for 5 minutes, by me for a school student,  as requested & presented by him and friends very successfully.)

(Mike:  WE ARE INDIANS.  On  the stage: 1.  Abhijith Gangadharan 2……. 3……. 4…….)

(Four students come to the stage keeping their hands over the shoulders of each other, smilingly.)

(Mike again: Here come the four friends – Prakash  Shankar, Rahim Abdullah, Thomas John and Sukesh Jain.)

(All the four sit on a bench, behind the desk facing the audience.)

PRAKASH:  So, today is August 15.  Till the bell rings for assembly, let’s sit here and chat.  (Smilingly) It’s good that we got freedom not to carry our books today being Independence Day!  Thank God!

ALL OTHERS:  (Smile) Yes, yes.

THOMAS:  It’s difficult if the freedom is too much.  That’s what we are experiencing.  Is n’t  it?

RAHIM:  It’s not like that.  Nobody should take advantage for the reason that we are free or we have freedom.

SUKESH: We fought against foreigners and gained independence. Our forefathers sacrificed their life for the same and it’s our duty to show them as to how we utilize the same meaningfully.

PRAKASH:  Exactly!  They did divide and rule us – with religion and cast discrimination. (Little loudly) Look at ourselves!  We hail from different religions.  So what?  Is there anything lacking in our friendship?

THOMAS:  You are right.  Nobody should think to separate us for that reason. (He draws cross from left shoulder to right shoulder and from head to stomach.)

RAHIM:  In a way, we, Indians are lucky.  Is n’t it?  How many languages, how many regions, how many religions and what a civilization and heredity, Oh, Allah.  Still, we are one.

SUKESH:      Of course, we are one and one only.

PRAKASH:  We are four, yaar (smile).

(ALL LAUGH)

THOMAS:  Knowledge is power.

RAHIM:  Unity is strength!

SUKESH:  Let’s come to the subject.

PRAKASH:  I like our patriotic songs much.

THOMAS: Who does not?

SUKESH:  Yes, We are Indians!

RAHIM:  sare jahan se accha  (To others: tells by action to sing together)

ALL: (By standing) sare jahan se accha hindostan hamara
ham bulbulain hai is ki, yeh gulsitan hamara

(At this time, the bell rings for assembly)

(ALL move from their seats and walk out as the same way they entered – but this time hand in hand singing:

sare jahan se accha hindostan hamara)

(Loudly)  JA I   H I N D   !

(CURTAIN)

Energy of Love

Energy of Love

(Poem)

Oh, my sweetheart, my darling,

Wherever you are, my mind

Will be with you to escort you;

I will see you in my inner mind;

I will hear your sweet voice;

I will smell your fragrance;

And, my lips to your beautiful lips

Will imprint the signs of kisses;

I, being thirsty of sacred love

Will hug you again and again;

I will pray for you always

As you are the partner of my life;

My all these soft feelings

Are the energy to lead me

Till I meet you next time;

May this energy of love

Fill within us at all times!

Love, Love and Love (Poem)

Love, Love and Love  (Poem)

I remember a poem
And, its name is ‘’Love’’
It was taken from a religious book
And, was taught by my teacher
Alas! I don’t remember it now
But, I did learn from my life –
When my mother hugged me,
When I sat on my father’s lap,
When I played with my siblings,
When my friends gave me company,
When I set up my family,
When my relatives loved me,
Moreover, when all and vice-versa
Loved – I knew very well that
There is no substitute for Love
And, so, LOVE, LOVE and LOVE
And,  BE LOVED by all!
